Office WORD file converter?

  Without knowing what exactly happened a few weeks ago, When I opened any WORD doc, I got a menu asking me to save the file, I keep getting a message " converter can't open file".
  I thought mabe something happened to my XP, so I resinstalled XP, which totally removed all my office products.
  Same situation, except now I have no ( EXCEL, WORD, etc...)
