Hi.
I recently sent away my computer to be repaired following an hardware issue. It worked fine for a few days but now it won't activate the Vista Business OEMAct using the Licence sticker on the tower.

It looks as if your Licensing Store is corrupted -Please try the below steps to recreate the Store with the correct data.
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice. You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker, on the machine’s case.Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results

Thanks for the reply.
When I click "Run as admin" on CMD.exe it says in an error box "Not enough quota to execute command"
typing Step 2 just gave me a google search for %windir% so i was able to open up the file system and open System 32 that way and right click on CMD.exe. Is this ok?
Thanks

Should be - you should have a window up with the title
Admiistrator:Command Prompt
If not, use the following method to get there
Click on the Stat button.
Click on All Programs, then Accessories
right-click on Command Prompt
select Run as Administrator

When I type "net stop slsvc" in to command prompt it says
"System Error 1816 has occurred" "Not enough quota is available to proceed with this command"
Do you know if I can get a replacement Key and activate it? I only get the automated service when I call up.
Thanks again for your help

A new Key won't help if the system isn't functioning properly in the first place.'Not enough Quota' is an unusual error - and usually a simple reboot fixes it.If not, then I would suggest running the usual file system repairs.type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot. The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.Post an MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

I got around the quota error by closing the internet browser.
I'll post back again in a few minutes and let you know how I get on with command prompt

That's OK - you need to use telephone activation nowOne thing that does concern me a little is that the current installation is for Vista Business N - you say that your Key is for 'vanilla' Vista Business - please check this.If your Key is for Business rather than Business N, then that would explain the difficulties you're having, and you will have to do a reinstall, or an upgrade install.<Moderator Note: I have Bolded and underlined the above information as I believe this is the core of the issue>
Assuming the Key is for Business N, then use telephone activation and speak to an operator.telephone activation (operator calls)Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

Thanks for all your help.
The sticker on the computer says "Vista Business OEMAct" Maybe the repair shop I used installed a different version.
I'll ring up the phone activation now.
Thanks again.

It does sound like sloppy workmanship, more than anything else :(You could try taking it back to them and demanding they do a proper job?
