hrs per week per project
-
segunda-feira, 2 de julho de 2012 16:42Is there a way to have different hrs per week within one project. I have production which is approx. 76 hrs. per week(19 hrs per day) in a schedule with engineering which is 40 hrs/wk (8 hrs per day) and some tasks have a 7 day a week calendar.. Do I have to make them separate projects? They are already assigned different calendars. it is a problem because i cant get my integrated schedule to line up with the start dates each group has provided.

You can assign Task Calendars to set of tasks based on their work-hrs; You can create 3 Tasks Calendars for 3 different types of tasks - Production (19hrs/day) , Engineering (8hrs/day) and 24-hrs Task Calendar (which is in-built in MS Project).
You can refer to following link on how to create and assign Task Calendars - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/create-a-calendar-for-a-task-within-project-HA010377765.aspx
Also, refer to similar thread - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projectprofessional2010general/thread/1318dce0-2a27-418f-a40b-40f7d3b3c32c/
You can define Project Start Date, based on the set of tasks which are aligned to Start first in the Group.

Hello Vassily,
>> Is there a way to have different hrs per week within one project.
To my best knowledge, that's not possible. IMO, if you do not use "week" as time unit in the schedule, Project will not use Hours Per Week value in calculations and the rest will be handled by the calendar definitions as Sapna has already suggested.

terça-feira, 10 de julho de 2012 19:44yes, but why can you only define the hrs per week at the project level? if you can have multiple calendars you should be able to do that.

Hi,
We are not the people who designed the software so we do not have the possibility to discuss why certain options were chosen, sorry.

yes, it dawned on me to manipulate the duration to get the days to line up in both schedules. I have done that for years, and just forgot since I haven't had to in a long time. So you can have the same start and finish in both schedules, but durations will be different. Thanks for asking.Long Live America
