I have a situation where all of the computers on the local network are able to back up - except one.
On the one computer that will not back up, the backup does not start and there is no error message. Event Viewer shows Event ID 1807 - a protocol mismatch, but there is no further information.
I have tried reinstalling the connector and starting the Volume Shadow Copy service.
The server is an HP MediaSmart Server running WHS SP2.
What do I have to do to get a backup of this client?

The protocol mismatch may be unimportant; can you let us know the versions reported in the event?
As for the backup itself, have you run chkdsk /r on the client? Also, make sure you have sufficient space free on the client (off the top of my head, at least 10% free on each drive), that there are no drives formatted with file systems other than NTFS flagged for backup, that the client is not on battery during the backup window (note that some UPS devices make desktop computers thing they're on battery), and that the client (if configured to hibernate/sleep) is configured to wake up for backup.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
