    Hi Paulo,

You can choose the dictionary language for spell-checking in Tools -> Options -> Spelling. Unfortunately right now we only have English. We will work to include more languages in the future.

    Thanks,
    Flora

I can get my onw dictionary but I can't choose to use it because it's not one of the predefined languages.

Languages should be configured or, better yet, determined by the dictionaries present in the dictionaries folder.

It would be great if you just could simply integrate MS Word Dictionaries, is it possible?

Increasing our spell-checking dictionaries is one of our top priorities. I can't make any sort of guarantees, and there are complications involved that make it not as simple as it sounds, but be assured that it is a very bright flashing light on our radar right now.

It's great to hear that you're working on improving the feature.   Dealing with spell check is the most annoying part of my Writer experience.  For whatever reason, Writer has always seemed (to me) to have trouble dealing with prefixes and suffixes.  It will often recognize the root word alone but not the variant.  Also, compared to other locally-run (as opposed to web app) text editors the vocabulary of the software sometimes seems rather limited, particularly for some technical fields.  Perhaps I've just become spoiled by Word, but it seems like Writer's spell checker functions more like it's relatively lousy Hotmail cousin than spell checkers in other locally-run text editors.

Don't get me wrong, I love Writer (and am quite pleased with new beta thus far).  Just something that annoys me on a regular basis.

But in this page http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D85741BB5E0BE8AA!1533.entry you say:

    log authoring enhancements

    • Spell Checking in more languages: Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (Portugal), Serbian-Cyrillic, Serbian-Latin, Spanish, and Swedish
This page is about Livre Writer Beta. But I installed Livre Writer Beta an still only have english options. Who is wrong? This page, my version or what?

Another bata release, same "advertisement" about the included spell checking capabilities, but the fact remains - it is still not working!. Dictionaries are NOT there, so it is a big fat lie!. There is a difference between future feature list, and currently provided enhancements.

Microsoft management needs to pay more attention to its reputation. Are they so cynical, and believe that people KNOW not to rust what is on MS product description pages?

    I am disappointed.

What is wrong with you? Just few days ago new version was released and there are many languages supported. What language are you interested in?
Just go to spellcheck options. And it seems to be installed only english and your operating system language, because there are huge lang. support, but i hyve only my mine and english.

English dictionaries are available in all builds. Other dictionaries are only available in the build for that language. For example, to get the Greek dictionary you'd have to install the Greek build.

Here is the list of dictionaries that are available in their respective language builds:

Arabic, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesia, Italian, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian-Cyrillic, Serbian-Latin, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukranian

Still not an option for someone like me that chooses to install EN-US versions of software and has blogs in different languages.

The right implementation would be to have language packs and to the language to be configured on a per blog account basis.

Yes, we hope to have language packs and hopefully per-blog language settings in the future--no promises as to when that will happen though, as usual. In the meantime, if you want, you can copy the files out of C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Writer\Dictionaries from your native language, uninstall Writer, install en-us Writer, and put the Dictionaries files back in that directory. A little tedious but it should work.

Sorry for the inconvenience, obviously this is all a work in progress.
