    Hi,

    I want to take MCTS certification. So for that, is I need to pass 3 exams in specific technology or only one exam?

    Please advice.

    There are many MCTS certifications for various Microsoft Technologies.  You need to be more specific.  Which technology do you want to certify in?

    Hi

    On average you only need one exam for most of the MCTS certifications. The exceptions to this are mainly in the .NET 2.0 and 3.5 exams as they require to have exam 70-536 passed first. This means that only your first MCTS on .NET 2.0 or 3.5 requires passing this exam. Subsequent MCTS will only require one as you will have already passed the rereq.

    Dear SHINOJmm,

    No, you do not need to pass any other exam(s) than Exam 70-515: TS: Web Applications Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4 for MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Web Applications certification.

    However, if you want to earn Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) certification you'll have to pass other exam(s) corresponding to the particular MCPD Certification(s). For more information about various MCPD Certifications and corresponding exam(s) visit the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) web page on Microsoft Learning website.

    Hi,

          According to some reply, it seems like not need to pass any other exam for 70-515, so we can direct move to 70-515.

    But i also have seen some posts that presenting we have to clear 2 - 3 exam before 70-515. I am new to .net plateform and wanna to clear .net 4.0 as web devlpmnt. But gotta confused yet that should i go for 70-515 direct or need to pass some pre-exam?

    So please let me know also.

    There are no pre-requisites for sitting exam 70-515. 

    Can you please provide links to the other posts which state you need to do 2-3 exams before 70-515,

    No.. it means thats the target audience. You dont need to have the experience to do the exam (but it helps :) )

    But mr. wharty,

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=70-515  this article(Audience Profile section) says candidate should have years of experience on .net 4.0.

    So experience is compulsion or not? (for 70-515)

    Of course it is.  Just like any exam.

    Why would you take an exam if you didn't have any experience in the technology?

    Of course, you need some practial experience (like in any other exam) for the exam, but it is not (officially) required for taking the exam. Like said you need no other exam before taking 70-515, but you should have hands-on experience with web technologies.

    Article says:

    1. Candidates should have a minimum of two to three years of experience developing Web-based applications by using Visual Studio and Microsoft ASP.NET.

    2. Candidates should also have a minimum of one year of experience with the following: (.......)

    and you mean if candidate has experience then it will be more better.

    I have one year of experience in web development, So can i eligible for 70-515?

    I need you help.

    The article is a guide to what's required.  Some poeple with less experience have sat and past the exam, some with more experience have failed.  Every person is different so there's no rule that fits all test takers.

    The way I usually study is by doing what Niall has done in his posts on the exam (http://www.certsandprogs.com/2010/03/mcts-web-applications-net-4-70-515.html#axzz1nCFeafwG).  I look at the skills being measured in the exam and then research the content using MSDN Online.

    Hi,

    my personal opinion on this:

    1st: Yes, you should have experience. But that is nothing Microsoft / Prometric / the test center will check. When you take your test you do not have to give them a proove that you worked multiple years in this area or so.

    2nd: So you should simply try to get experience. 2 or 3 years experience in a job are not as good as multiple weeks of concentrated playing around with a technology. So one way to prepare could be to take the self-paced training kit and then go through all chapters. After each chapter make sure that you really play around with the technology covered in the chapter. You normaly have some examples you coud take or just create your own solution from the use-case or build your own test application. It must not be something usefull. But make sure to really play around! Also look up the classes on MSDN and make sure that you used all properties, methods and events in your examples. Then you should have a deep understanding together with the experience required. (But as said in 1st: Nobody will check that you did it!)
