my computer will only come on the screen that says safe mode or start windows normally or start windows in last known good...but no matterwhat i chose it shuts down

  restarted computer after an update noticing that some updates were not installed, now i cant start the windows xp. I get to the safe mode page but it just shuts down after it scrolls thru some files. pls help.
