Restore wireless access to the laptops that do not have OneCare
-
17 august 2008 02:35I have two desktop computers with OneCare. I have 4 laptops with other security systems. I had to reset my wireless network from Lynksys to OneCare even though those laptops did not have OneCare. I did reset 2 of them using the ID given. However, I did not reset the other 2 laptops because I was not using those at that time. Since then, I misplaced the ID that I used. Now, I cannot have wireless access on those 2 laptops that I did not reset. It looks like even though those laptops do not have OneCare, the wireless access is controlled by OneCare. Currently, it shows no available wireless network. How can I restore wireless access on those laptops? Thank you for your help.

The wireless key is set in the router by OneCare if you used that option and if your router is supported.
From OneCare help:
To add a computer to a wireless network if you used the Add a PC wizard in Windows Live OneCare:
- On the computer that you used to help secure the wireless network, click Change Settings.
- On Firewall tab, click Advanced settings.
- On the Network connections tab, click your wireless network, and then click Details.
- The SSID and network key appear in the Security Information area.
And, on the PCs you wish to add to the network:
To add a device to a newly secured wireless network, follow the instructions in the manufacturer's manual for the device. If you need more help, contact the manufacturer of the device.
Note
You must enter the SSID (Service Set Identifier, also known as the network name. A unique name entered to access a WiFi network that enables communication between network users and the access point.) and network key to add a device.
