HTC Touch Pro won't sync!!!!!
- AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm so frustrated! I just got a HTC Touch Pro and have been unable to do anything w/ the Windows Mobile Device center. I have it dowloaded and have tried every re-configuration listed in the trouble shooting area to no avail. When I plug my phone up to my comp, it does nothing. It doesn't even launch WMDC muchless connect my device to it. It charges my phone so I know it's not the cord, but I haven't been able to find a way to get them to work together. The blue tooth thing won't sync either. I'm so frustrated and ready to throw them both at a wall!!! Can anybody help???

- Hi Jack, thanks for the reply... I finally got it fixed, tried all the common sense things, cables, ports et al... Even synced it to another machine and it worked fine... After downloading WMDC from MS website and intstalling / unistalling and many frustrating hours and the odd obscenity directed at my laptop and Microsoft and HTC I got the disc out, explored it found a file which was an update file, installed that and hey presto it fixed the problem and it's been working perfectly (touch wood) since...

- Since you are getting power to the smartphone, I agree with you that it probably isn't the cable. One possibility is that your firewall is blocking the connection. I would suggest temporarily disabling the firewall and see if you have the same issue.
While I have not experienced this exact issue with an HTC Touch Pro, I have seen Vista sometimes not recognize (or even see) a USB-connected device. This seems to mostly happen if Vista has gone into sleep mode, and then been woken up right before plugging in the USB device. In that case, the only thing I have found that resolves the problem is to either Restart or, sometimes, to do a logoff/logon sequence. You might try this if you haven't already. - I also just went through this nightmare. Try this:
Start, settings, 'connections tab', USB to PC, then UNCHECK the "Enable faster data sync" box

- I have exactly the same problem trying to connect Touch Pro (Verizon) to Vista Home Premium 64. The PC won't recognize the Touch Pro connected to the USB. First connection it tried for a long time to install a driver, it seemed to finally think it succeeded, but the connection doesn't work. Sometimes when I connect I get a Windows warning "USB device not recognized- one of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned...." Sometimes I don't get any message, no response at all.
I have switched the Touch Pro settings-connections-USB to PC back and forth from ActiveSync to Disk Drive (the only 2 choices), but neither setting will work. I do not see the option that BBeth suggested ("Enable faster data sync") in my Verizon Touch Pro.
My best guess is the driver is not correct. I used the one that came on the Verizon Touch Pro Getting Started CD, the Verizon software seemed to recognize the Vista operating system, and also installed the WinMo Device Center. I'm wondering if there is another driver available somewhere? I have it dowloaded and have tried every re-configuration listed in the trouble shooting area to no avail. It would be helpful to know what you have tried. Also, when you connect the device, do you here a beep from the PC saying a deviec was connected. Does the beep occur a second time a few seconds later? Open Device Manager while the device is connected and tell me where you see the device listed.

To answer Jack's question - no beeps, and nothing in device manager. - I have the same trouble with my HTC Diamond Touch, it used to work on and off, now it won't sync at all, I'm in the same boat, have unistalled and reinstalled WMDC reset the handset, all to no avail! I'm using Vista 64, maybe that's the problem... But can anyone Help???

Have you tried a different USB port? Can you try a different cable that is used to sync?
If you open Device Manager BEFORE you connect, your device WILL NOT be listed. With it open, connect your device and if your machine recognizes that a device has been attached, Device Manager will "flicker" as it updates. If that happens then you should be able to see where it is listed. If it is listed, tell me what you see.
Can you try a different Vista computer just to see if it will connect? If WMDC is installed, the process will begin. If you get to the SETUP CONNECTION screen then you know the devie and cable are fine. If it is not your computer, just disconnect and close WMDC.

When you "got the disc out", are you referring to a Microsoft disc or a disc from your wireless provider? Any clues as to what the update file was- Windows driver, HTC software update, ??
I spent 90 minutes on the phone with Verizon tech support on Sunday, they could not figure out why my Touch Pro won't connect. We also tried different cables, ports, uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC, tried all the permutations in the settings-connections-USB to PC window. I also tried connecting to an XP laptop and an old W2K machine, both of which already had ActiveSync 4.5 and sync just fine with my Axim X51V. Neither of those setups would recognize when the Touch Pro was connected. The Verizon tech also contacted Microsoft; after we declined Microsoft's request for $59 to help solve the problem they referred us to The MS Knowledge Base website. Verizon actually spent 20 minutes with me exploring the site, but they finally gave up and offered to replace the Touch Pro. I expect a new unit today, I have my fingers crossed this one will work. - I had this same problem and the fix was so simple it annoyed me. There is a setting in Settings -----> Connections ------> USB to PC uncheck the box that says Enable advanced network functionality (clear this box if Activesync does not recognize the device)
After I did that presto my computer started recognizing my device. Hope this helps.
Sorry microsoft but I was surprised to find this solution on your website but I did. Most times I find my solutions to Microsoft related issues outside of your website but this time I found it here.

- GMal, the file I used was tucked awat inside the folders on the disc that came with the phone, it was called drvupdate-amd64.exe

Rhaynukaa you are so welcome. Sometimes it is the simplest fixes for the most complex of issues. I told you it was annoying after I realized what a simple fix it was. Glad I could help someone.
HTC Touch Pro- Hi Jack,
I am have had an HTC Touch for about 2 years and had virtually no problems synching with a pc at work and one at home. Recently I connect to either computer and it makes the usual sounds and says it is connected but I get an error message saying that synchronisation cannot be completed successfully . Reconnect your device and try again and recommends the troubleshooter in help. I can't find anything in there that helps and have tried altering regional settings to US and UK and have also tried a soft reset when the device is attached I also tried reloading active sync 4.5 from the internet but nothing seems to make any difference. Any suggestions? Do you know what the error is?

I scoured the internet for days, hours and after trying everything on the internet, going through every troubleshooting guide and reinstalling everything with no luck, I finally went in to my local cell provider service store (verizon).
Even though I COULD still charge my phone through the usb cable, it still no longer was recognized by on ActiveSync. Turns out IT WAS A BAD CABLE.
The usb cable that came with me phone had a few wires loose on the inside of the cable. Probably was yanked too hard one time. I went in to my corporate cell phone provider store and they replaced my cable no charge since I've only had it a month. Voila! Everything now worked.
I bet a lot of issues are due to the cable. The one my phone came with wasn't very good cable. Can easily be yanked from base near usb port with no extra reinforcement. The one the store gave me was a lot more sturdy.

- ok been down the same hole for several weeks now. here is what i found, on the HTC Touch Pro there is a icon on the settings>connections tab on the phone called USB to PC. My phone had the "Disk Drive" radio button selected, changed it to "Active Sync" and all is well.
sajata - It does beep. But that's it. There's no second beep. The little thing (yeah, not-so-technical term) that usually says that it's installing a driver doesn't even come up. I had a phone that worked fine, and this one isn't doing it. I called Sprint tech support (BIGGEST JOKE EVER) and they told me that I just need a new phone. Sorry, but I'm not paying the 100 deductible for that!

http://www.mobilitysite.com- I had a similar problem with Windows Vista (for 64 bit) and an HTC Touch phone (just plain "Touch", purchased Dec 2007). This was a new PC and we had downloaded Windows Mobile Device Manager and set up the synchronization - we thought successfully. However, on the next attempt, Tte phone was charging, but refused to connect. Rebooting the PC worked sometimes, but was a pain. Beth's hint on this website sent me to my phone: Start / Settings / USB to PC, where I unchecked "Enable advanced network functionality". The phone and PC immediately connected and sychronized. Hope it stays that way!
