  Hi,

  From my point of view and even certification point of view based on your question, 70-511 is the best exam to start with as it deals with designing of Windows application but most of the focus is on designing application using WPF 4.0.

  But as 70 - 518 is a professional level exam which tests all the skills related from WPF 4.0, ADO.NET 4.0 and WCF 4.0 after clearing the exams 70-511 designing Windows Apps, 70-513 WCF (Windows Communication Foundation), 70-516 (Data Access ADO.NET) you can appear for 70-518 means 70-511, 70-513 and 70-516 are must to be cleared at MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) level and then you can go for MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer) 70-518 to earn its certification otherwise directly appearing for 518 has no meaning and sense in itself.

  Based on your questions

  70-511 is the starting point and progress gradually appearing for 70-513 and 70-516 and atlast 70-518

  Hello,

  The above mentioned certifications that you mentioned are good as far as designing goes, but I think for development you should only go wits .net framework 4.0. But as of now you must go for 70-511 first and then for the 518. I hope it helped you

  Hi,

  i was also planning to go for these exams but i found that these exams are retiring in in July 2013. shall we take these exams or wait for related upcoming exams?

  I think there needs to be a WPF specific exam. XAML and WPF and binding is so different from regular C#, it needs its own certification separate from the new C#.

  Also, WPF is part of Windows 8 still, so it is going to be used for desktop applications for the next 11 years minimum (till Windows 8 End of Life) and I expect WPF to remain part of .NET in Windows 9 and part of .NET in Windows 10, so WPF will be valid for two decades.

  Some apps, such as Visual Studio itself, are not going to go ever work well as a Metro app (though I wouldn't be surprised of someone tried to force a square peg in a round hole, it is tried all the time).

  So far so many features are lost with Metro apps, such as loading two windows and putting them side by side (watching a video and taking notes on it at the same time, or reading steps on a blog while performing the steps on the blog).
