Invalid Office Pro 2003 Key

I had bought a new computer about a month ago with the full Office 2003 Pro pre-installed. I enter the Product Key on the back of the OEM disk but Office says its invalid.
I contacted the company I bought it from (MESH) and they say to do a full system recovery and try again (i.e. Go back to factory settings).
Before I commence this, is there any other way of solving this problem that does not require me to reformat my computer? E.g. get a replacement key or reinstall etc???
