คำตอบ NON GENUINE WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE - Just a simple help question

Hi there, I have a very definite counterfeit activation key on my Windows 7 Ultimate and the guy I bought the software from (a fellow uni student of all things) has just disappeared!  It appears there was a scam on my campus and there's not much I can do about it now.  Next week I will be in a position to buy genuine software and I just want to know do I have to reinstall all the software before I can reactivate or can I just use the new activation key and unblock my copy?  Also, I'm running 7 Ultimate which is a little bit overboard for the way I use the computer and was thinking I might like to buy Windows 7 Professional as it's quite a bit cheaper.  I only use the PC for home use and uni research.  In that case do I need to do a complete reinstall or can I just activate Professional on my illegal (and probably a trial copy with a fake activation code) software?  Would appreciate your help and advice.  Thanks.

If your Ultimate version is a "retail" copy (not a trial one) and the only problem is a blocked key, you could indeed use a new key for activating it. (If something like an "activation hack" is involved with the fake key, you must remove it first.) If you prefer to install a new Professional version instead, you must reinstall your applications because you can't "upgrade" from Ultimate to a lower version.

Sanmaritin is correct but to explain it in a little more detail, If the genuine copy of Windows 7, that you buy, is the Ultimate version, then yes, just changing out the Product Key would work (unless, as Sanmaritin points out, there is an Activation hach installed, then you would need to uninstall the hack before Windows would return to a Genuine state).

If you decide on buying Win 7 Professional (instead of Ultimate) then you would need to reinstall.  The Professional version key would not work in Ultimate.

    Thank you,
