คำตอบ Windows is not genuine - how is this possible?

I purchased a Dell Inspiron last summer and it came with Windows Vista. However, I had some difficulties about a month ago (viruses) and I called up the Dell people, so they can send me the recovery discs. The recovery discs came for Windows 7, which is what was installed on my laptop. About a month later (now), it tells me that my Windows is not genuine. How is this possible? What should I do?
Ive tried calling up Dell again, but their only solution was to buy some software warranty or whatever for £60 or £99 and I dont think I should be having to pay this amount of money for something I have already paid for when I bought the laptop.

    Two observations:

    1) If Dell sends you recovery discs for Windows 7 and you had Vista preinstalled before, it's their fault. How can they suppose someone could repair a Vista installation with Win7? Claim an exchange for a Vista Recovery disc. At no cost, of course.

    2) The "recovery disc" you got, has a disadvantage (explained in 1): Your BIOS can't respond to a Win7 OEM_SLP key (that's a key tied to the BIOS for preinstalled systems - and Win7 wasn't preinstalled on your system), and subsequently shows a wrong or missing "Windows marker" in the last section of your report (0x0). At least, that is probably a sign that no counterfeit was intended (known procedures to acheive a fake activation would change this value, too.)

In any case, speak again with the Dell people and insist on a support that makes sense.

If the customer went through all the effort of obtaining the recovery disk from dell and they provided the wrong disk I would hope they would foot the bill to get her windows 7 legitimately activated instead of making her wait for another disk and reinstall again.

I remember the days that I recomended Dell to people BECAUSE of their support.

I just wanted to add some newly learned information.

Ardiana's Diagnostic Report is indicating that the WAT Update found a known Activation Hack and has flagged Windows as Non-Genuine.

To resolve this issue, the Activation Hack must be removed. (If removing the Hack causes the Windows to become unlicensed, a new Product Key will need to be entered).

Once the Hack is uninstalled and Windows is using a Valid Product Key, go to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button. That will force WAT to run again and if all is Genuine, WAT will return Windows back to a Genuine state.

(NOTE: Since there are over 70+ known Activation Hacks detected by the WAT Update, I am not able to assist in removing the Activation Hack).

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

Will MS release an activation exploit uninstallation utility? I would understand why if they didn't with the possiblity of rendering an OS unusable, but......

As to the hack, I dont really know much about computers, not more than the average user, so deleting a hack is something out of my bounds. Even if I did, I dont want to buy the product key, because as explained in my first thread, I dont think I should be paying for this.
I will call up Dell and demand the recovery discs for Windows Vista or the key for Windows 7.

    Anyway, thanks for everyones help!!
