new "windows is not genuine" message is appearing

  hmm, perhaps I am 90 days from when I installed W7, and I entered the key incorrectly?  I have the product key, but I don't know how to check it against what I entered in windows....

  Ah, new thought.  I had to have my harddrive replaced, done at the place of purchase (Future Shop in Canada).  Perhaps they did something funny when they reinstalled the new drive. I  see that my HrOnline is not 0, and this means there is a validation problem.  Does this sound plausible?

   *****-*****-3VY6K-FFDBY-JRBGX<----------- that is a truncated representation of the installed key, it is missing the first two segments for your protection so DO NOT post the remainder of your key, Just compare it to the key that came with your upgrade. If it matches then press the win-key and pause key at the same time, this will cause the system properties box to pop up, scroll down to the bottom where is displays activation information, if the activate now link is available then click it. If you get a confirmation that activation was succesful then run MGAdiag again and post it here.
  
  If the key does not match then bring up the system properties by hiting the win-key and pause, scroll to the bottom and click the install new product key link, insert the new key and click OK. Now if it asks you to activate choose to do so, otherwise, back in the system properties box look for the activate now link.
  
  Again, if succesful post the diag again. Also, if you get activated you may want to validate online and post any problems.

  The key looks correct, but it wouldn't activate.  Just to make sure, I entered the key in again.  The activation popped up with Error code 0x80070000D   Invalid Data.

  type slui 4 in the search box and hit enter, choose country or region, call the number but do not select any options, this will force a real person to answer. have your product key ready. Maybe they can help you or direct you to the support line who can. They will verify the key and then troubleshoot why your computer will not except it.

  Thanks Carl.
  I had seen other posts about slui 4, but unfortunately entering slui 4 in the search box does nothing on my PC.  The activation call center window does not open up.  Entering slui kicks open the activation dialog, which tells me I'm a failure.
  
  I haven't been able to find any phone numbers on the MS website. I've tried email already. I got a response from MS after 24hrs to tell me that they've forwarded my email to a professional, who will get back to me within 24hrs.  I'm getting nervous, I need this laptop for a presentation and having the "not genuine" messages would be really, really embarassing.

  Hit the win-key and pause simultaniously which will bring up the system properties (or find it in the control panel), scroll to the bottom, click on the activate now link, look for an activate by phone option (I have never had to do it this way, hopefully the activate by phone option is still in the same place). Again, don't input anything if you want to force a real person to answer.

    I just wanted to tell you that the Diagnostic Report is indicating that this copy of Windows has an Activation Hack installed.
  
    The reason I mention it is that even though the Product Key listed in the above Diagnostic Report is Genuine, Windows will remain Non-Genuine untill the Activation Hack has been removed.
  
    Once the Activation Hack is removed, go to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button. As long as everything else is good, the Validation will return a Genuine response and will return Windows back to a Genuine state.  At that point, shmish should be able to Activate.

  C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The data is invalid.   <---- is this what you are refering to, is this one of the hacks that modifies files? I don't think grub would do this.
  
  
  Take it back to the shop that installed it and insist they fix it, or bite the bullet so to speak and do a clean install. If you need to save data and programs I would suggest having them fix it.... for free.

  Yesterday morning I spent 2.5hrs on the phone with MS.  They didn't have a solution to my problem and eventually I had to reinstall the OS.
  
  I'm still going to follow through with this via email and see what the MS email people say.  I'm not sure why there would be an Activation hack?  It's a legit license and has the proper key installed, why would it need to be hacked?
  
  I'll follow up in this thread if I learn anything new.

  I was given a Dell upgrade DVD.  So it is OEM, but it isn't a recovery disk.  It is an OEM version of W7 install dvd.

  Quite different from my attitude 10-15 years ago, I am a pretty big fan of MS.  I don't begrudge them from using activation/piracy protection and as far as I know it works very well, which is good.  I don't see MS, and certainly not Bill Gates, as  being greedy.  However, I spent A LOT of time because of this issue.  I think I will have to revisit my requirements next time I'm in the market for a computer/OS.

    Looking at your Diagnostic Report, it tells me that the WAT update detected the Hash Signature of a known Activation Hack.
  
    I do not know why an Activation Hack would be installed on your computer because the OEM System Builder product key, currently being used, is Valid and Genuine.
  
    The resolution to the issue would be to uninstall the Activation Hack and then re-validate at http://microsoft.com/genuine. As long as there are no other issues (and your Diag Report doesn't show any other issues besides the detected Activation Hack) Windows will Validate as Genuine and the Non-Genuine messaging will cease.
  
    You mentioned that you reinstalled.  This will also resolve the issue and you should now, no longer be in a Non-genuine state. If you are, please re-run and post an updated Diagnostic Report so I can figure out what the addition problem is.

  No, I'm refering to "HrOnline: 0xC004C533".  If this line show anything other then 0x00000000
   it means WAT has detected the Hash Signature of a known Activation Hack.
  
  However, as I mentioned above, since you reinstalled, your Windows 7 should now be in a Genuine state.  Can you confirm?
