1 มีนาคม 2553 0:09Hi all
I seem to have the Windows 7 build 7600 not genuine problem like many others. I purchased a new HP in June 2009 with XP Pro already installed, with the promised Win7 Pro disc when it was released in October 2009. I got the upgrade disc in mid November 2009. I didn't rush out and install it immediately, deciding to wait a bit and see what the general consensus was. In early Feb 2010 I decided to do the upgrade. The install went well, I did all the updates and I started loading my programs. After a day or two I could no longer install most programs, and even running other programs like calculator wouldn't work. Kept telling me that it couldn't find the target location. Even a program moved to C:\ root directory wouldn't run saying it couldn't find it.
I reloaded Windows 7 Pro again, and it was all fine for a few days, then the same thing again. I couldn't run lots of stuff, and icons were missing. It seemed to not find many programs. I checked with a friend who went through everything, and we discovered that the updates hadn't installed properly with various error codes saying it couldn't find them too. Then the genuine image down the bottom right appeared.
I reloaded Windows 7 Pro again (3rd time in a week) and make a conscious decision not to run any updates (I always have it on manual). Everything was fine for about 2-3 weeks. Then yesterday without me doing anything it came up with a box saying my copy of windows was not genuine, and the bottom right watermark has reappeared. And now I can't run many programs again. Luckily I can still run Firefox and a few other programs already installed. I've read forums with many people saying to run slui.exe. I run that and it has an activation error. It says:
Code: 0x80070003
Decription: The system cannot find the path specified
Which seems to me like I can run the program.
I have a HP 6730B. I have tried today to do the updates in case that fixes it, and they won't run either.
Any ideas?
Cheers - Matt

1 มีนาคม 2553 0:14You have a hardware issue or something is corrupting your isntallation such as a virus/malware. If it were me I would attempt to do a factory restore back to the original OS. THere should be a recovery option when you first start your computer, check the manual for recovery options. WARNING, if you restore you will lose all data on the computer so backup any files you want to keep.
If you continue to have problems after restoring then call HP support (or call them first if you want to save 7) -
1 มีนาคม 2553 0:38You can obtain excellent HP notebook troubleshooting advice by posting your inquiry in the HP Notebook Forum.

1 มีนาคม 2553 0:51Well I have reloaded it 3 times now. Don't think a 4th time will necessarily help?
I'll have a search around the HP forum suggested by Carey.
BTW I am logged in as an administrator, and even if I right click on a file and hit "run as administrator" makes no difference. I also just downloaded the windowsactivationupdate file direct from Microsoft, and I can't run that either.

1 มีนาคม 2553 2:00If you have reloaded a new laptop 4 times then you should be talking to HP, sounds like a hardware problem with the limited information I have seen.

1 มีนาคม 2553 2:38All my hardware is working fine. It only seems to be once the Windows Genuine Advantage tool runs that I have troubles. It's very embarrasing as I'm the only Windows user in an office full of Mac and I'm a staunch Windows supporter and avid Mac hater.
I've posted the same question on the HP support forum, but no responses as yet.

1 มีนาคม 2553 23:20I've had enough. I'm going back to XP. That worked really well! As far as my experience goes, Win7 is no better than Vista was.

3 มีนาคม 2553 13:08Hello,
I have a windows not genuine issue as well. After doing some research on the web, I noticed that I can rearm the OS for another grace period of 30 days which i did. This allows me some more time to figure out what's going on.
I purchased this laptop from a guy on the web. It originally had Vista Home Premium on it and the guy which I both it from told me that his friend at Future Shop did the upgrade to Windows 7 and he assured me that it was a Genuine version. I do not have a disk or the product key which was used for the upgrade.
When I run slui 4, it tells me that the product key is invalid for Activation.
Here is my Diagnosis report. Please help.
Thank You

3 มีนาคม 2553 15:15Unfortunately, the installed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate is non-genuine. It appears to be a hacked version of a Dell OEM Windows 7 license.
From your MGA Report:
BIOS Information: SLIC DELL (you have a HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC)
You may wish to review this recent article which explains how this hack became available.
To resolve your non-genuine issue:
You can order the original HP Windows Vista recovery discs directly from HP: Looking for HP Recovery Discs? which will reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista, or you can purchase a "Full License" edition of Windows 7 from the Microsoft Store and perform a clean install.

5 มีนาคม 2553 13:23I got onto a tech support guy at HP who sent me a Win7 recovery DVD which he thinks will fix it. I got the DVD today so I will have a try of that over the weekend.
I had previously read the suggestions from other threads to run the MGADiag.exe program. Problem is I can't run 95% of programs, and I can't run 100% of any program I download. So I can't run MGADiag.exe to see what the results are. I'm just lucky that I can still run firefox, outlook and AutoCAD which are the things I mainly use.
I will post a reply once I try the recovery DVD tomorrow.

Since this seems to be the thread to hijack, well, my lawnmower won't start and with the unseasonably warm weather my grass is starting to get pretty tall. Should I check the gas level or do I just have to buy a new one? -

All Users
If you have a Validation (Non-Genuine) issue. Please create your own thread for your own issue.
Most Non-Genuine issues Look and Behave the same but can have many different causes and many different fixes. Posting your issue in someone elses thread will only cause confusion and a slower time to resolution for all involved.
This thread has become to confused with multiple different issues so I am locking it.
Thank you,
