    I downloaded MGADiag.exe and it tells me my Windows is Genuine. I received a key through my university's MSDN-AA program (http://msdn.microsoft.com/academic/). However when I go to Windows Update it says it can't validate my Windows. What do I do?

        I looked up the KB article corresponding to the download you suggested and it's the WGA Notifications installer. How will a program that is supposed to notify me if I don't have a valid install fix WGA? I'm asking as I'm a bit hesitant to install it, since the KB article tells me I can't uninstall it.

        (Also I think it's quite ironic I can only use this forum in Firefox. In Internet Explorer 6 the fonts are way to small (at 1600x1200) and in Opera 9 the rich text tools aren't supported and there doesn't seem to be a plain-text fallback version.)

          I just tried Windows Update again and somehow it's now magically working! Without installing WGA notifications! Windows Update does come up with an update for a device I don't have in my computer, but that's off-topic here I guess. Thanks for the help though.

            Great!

            To increase the size of the font when using IE, open IE to a wb page and from the Toolbar select: View > Text Size > Largest.

                Uninstall

                 KB971033 if there

                Change folder security for the following

                Add Local Service Account and provide full access to the following

                                C:\Windows\System32\winevt ""

                Add Network Service Account and provide full access to the following

                                C:\Windows\System32\Msdtc

                                C:\Windows\DtcInstall.log

                Stop Services:

                Background Intelligent transfer Service(BITS)

                Cryptographic Service

                Windows Update                            

                Rename

                C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2 to catroot2.old

                C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old

                Start Services:

                Background Intelligent transfer Service(BITS)

                Cryptographic Service

                Windows Update

                windows event log

                                               

                Run MGADiag.exe

                This has worked on over 50 machines where I work..

                Blame it all on Kb971033
