We'd like to port a solution we're working on for Windows Storage Server to WHS.  Is there an SDK and emulator ?

Alternatively, is there a recipe list for what files are included on the system so we can build our own emulator for testing, and possibly get copies or screenshots of the UI components so we can work out how to do the integration.

    thanks

There is no "emulator". You can run Windows Home Server in a Virtual PC or on Virtual Server...Or VMWare, or whatever your chosen virtualization solution is, however.

Members of the product team say that an SDK is forthcoming (aka - coming soon)...

Thanks Justin, I probably didn't make my question very clear.  When I say emulator, I mean emulator in the sense that the WindowsMobile emulator uses VPC but provides faked hardware that you may not necessarily have.  Frankly, I wouldn't need a VM if its that simple, i'll just install it on a test box.

I understand from a couple of MS guys I had a beer with that the WHS OEMs may be including some quite specific hardware items in their products, although I'm not sure what that is ... (special disk controller?)

They said that this isnt just cut down Windows Server 2003 R2 on a PC with a pretty web UI, its much more than that.  The inference is that the OEMs are adding some value here that a white box vendor could not do as easily, similar to the way it works with Windows Storage Server.  Otherwise, the WHS story would be diluted with someone putting XP/Vista onto a headless whitebox with a few web pages and a mini-client for each home PC.

I don't know any more, but I'm guessing its just not that simple.  Hope that clarifies what I meant.

ISV tool kit will be released later before the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Home Server.  There are no emulators as the differences between the hardware form factors are primarily the amount of storage they contain and the look and feel.  If your add-ins work on one version of Windows Home Server they will more than likely work on all versions of Windows Home Server, assuming there are no unique hardware requirements.

    OK cool, thanks Joel.

So, will the SDK toolkit run on regular Windows (XP,Vista, Server), or do we need a different SKU ?
