It occurred to me that when Mesh allows sync between 2 devices without syncing to Live Desktop I am going to be using it to sync my media collection to different machines in my house, mainly for backup purposes.

Quesrtion is, if those machines are on the same home network will all the sync activity occur across the internet? Obviously I'd rather that it did not, I'd prefer it if it were true peer-to-peer. This will be hugely important for people that have monthly data limis from their broadband provider.

    Thanks
    Jamie

Mesh client uses both ways - cloud and P2P. If it can do P2P better/faster it will switch to it. Although, certain information will still travel through the cloud, e.g. metadata that is required for sync and for establishing a P2P connection.

    Good. Thanks Nikolai.

When did it start doing this?  Or does it just apply to file sync and not remote desktop?  As of a few minutes ago, my sessions are still going out to the internet and back for a computer on my same NAT subnet.

Remote desktop does not use P2P yet and packets are relyed through the cloud. Sync does use P2P when it can (if direct connection exists). The cloud vs P2P sync logic is not carved in stone and adapts to local conditions, so in some cases you may see only cloud sync working.

That sounds like it's got some potential for being pretty robust.  I like.
