Go offline and records disappear

Hi,
I've got the outlook client installed on sales peoples laptops. However when I click to go offine, sync works correctly, but all accounts/contacts etc disappear. If I go back online everything is available again. Offine, gone.
No errors or anything, they are simply not there. *shrugs*
The first sync process showed it doing over 17000 records, every one after shows nothing to sync. When I check the local DB, there are no records at all.
Anyone seen this?

Thanks for you reply,
Local Data settings are: Update local data every 15 min.
The first sync showed over 17k of records being synced, however there is no local data (via SQL Server managment) and additional syncs/'go offline' do not add any data. Weird.
Also, once 'offline', should double clicking on a CRM account still be trying to access the CRM server? Popup shows it trying to access the server url.
Cheers
