How to model fix monthly work rates
-
25 Nisan 2012 Çarşamba 03:48I have resources that earn a fixed monthly salary; therefore they earn their salaries even if they are just working in several project tasks. When they are included in the project model, their salaries will be prorated based on the tasks they are assigned to. How can I “tell’ MProject 2010 standard that this “work resources” will be earning a fixed amount of money per month (or any other period), regardless tasks durations?

Hi JACO60,
Project is all about calculating Project costs, which includes the resource cost, task cost and other fixed/variable costs. Having said this, the tool calculates the resource cost for Project, it doesn't specifically work on resource costing. It look at cost parameters only from higher perspective of project costs. The tool doesn't help out of box to control cost of a resource, as in your case.Sapna S

Hi JACO
As per my knowlege, it seems not possible what you you intend to do..
And I dont want to guess, that if you have the monthly salary structure than why at all you want to calculate the cost field in the project.
But I have a try solution as follows:-
EXAMPLE
I have a resource XYZ having a monthly salary of Rs. 50,000/-
Now, what I will do is I will calculate the daily salary of Resource.[My Resource work for 5 days a week and 4 weeks in a month approxed to 22 days.]
Daily Salary of XYZ= 50000/22=2273(approx)
Now I have started a project having a start date of May 1, 2012 and assign XYZ as resource for whole month. See the cost field.
And we are getting almost accurate result. So I think you can try this way out.
But ensure that the resource is not over allocated.
Thanks
Manish

Hi Manish,
The user has already stated that the Salary is fixed and irrespective of number of Projects or Task durations/days, so no fixed calculation can be applied.

I believe Sapha has already answered the question. I'd like to add some comments...
Project is not an activity-based cost tracking tool. It is possible to use total work hours spent by resources to distribute their salary to the tasks proportionally in a separate Excel spreadsheet.
As Mike Glen (MVP) mentions in the tutorial article “Costs” here at http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=359, “Managing the overall costs of employment of a resource is a job for accounting applications, not project management applications and Microsoft Project is no different”.
Regards.
