Message: Windows Live OneCare Stopped Working

    问题

  • I have recently begun to have problems with 2.0 beta (I have Vista 64 bit and must use the beta).  I get two error boxes.  One says "Windows Live OneCare Service Stpped working and was closed  A problem caused the application to stop working correctly.  Windows will notify you if a solution is available."  The other message says: "Windows Live OneCare cannot continue. The windows live onecare service is not working or has been stopped. To correct the problem, try restarting your computer.  If the problem persists contact support."   Also, the Security Center shows thaqt I do not have a virus protection or spyware app operating.

Restarting does not help.  Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • I'm having exactly the same problem.

And I can't open Internet Explorer and the internet connectivity icon is crossed out......but Firefox opens and I can surf the internet. Weird.

Since OneCare is being discontinued and the subscription ends in August (next month) I wonder if this is a problem with Microsoft's product....maybe I should uninstall it and get Norton instead!!

What is the *exact same problem*?

Are you getting an error about OneCare stopped working?

Check the PC date and time -

Right click the clock in the system tray. Select Adjust Date and Time.

Verify and correct the month, day, year, hour, minutes and time zone.

Reboot if you changed any of the above.

That's the most likely cause of that error.

In IE, go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN and make sure that nothing is checked.

Also in IE, go to Tools and make sure that Work Offline has not been selected.

You can choose whatever security you wish once your OneCare sub ends.

See this post for End of Life information for Windows Live OneCare - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecaregeneral/thread/81996436-edad-41ba-bdfc-02fc094e2ca9

Uninstall OneCare http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecaregeneral/thread/732e6371-2e71-479a-8cd6-b189941ed4fb, use the cleanup tool:  http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/399071e2-49dc-4767-932d-d261e3965943/, and then download and install the free Microsoft Security essentials for malware protection - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/resources.aspx

If you used OneCare for backups, you'll still be able to restore from old backups if you use the OneCare Restore tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/e5d686c8-762b-4b22-bc08-bfb93f911e57, but you'll need to seek an alternative backup solution.

Actually, OneCare will likely cease working for you by the end of the year, although it might go that extra week. At this point, you probably won't be able to uninstall it, though, if your problem is similar to the thread I just referred you to.
