Advice on 70-536 and 70-505
- I am a software developer for almost 6 years, I have worked mainly with C# but never bothered to pass the exams as they are not seen even as nice to have in my country. But I will be moving to US in a year or so, and I was thinking that some certifications will help me get a job faster.
I have worked in web development for a year and a half, ASP.NET on 1.1 framework, then a year of VC++, and then windows development ( for the last 3 and a half years) in C#, but mainly GUI, algorithms and some threading but nothing too complicated.
I was thinking of starting with windows development certification but I am not sure what learning material I need. I thought of buying MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-536): Microsoft® .NET Framework Application Development Foundation, Second edition and MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-505): Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 Windows® Forms Application Development and then some practice tests from the sites that are recommended here MeasueUp and selftestsoftware, but I am not sure it will be enough.
I am also not sure that the path I chose is the right one, because from I saw web development is in much more demand than windows development.
Some advice would be greatly apreaciated.

Hi,
Let me give you a clear answer on this:
1. The resources that you have mentioned are good and more than enuf study / reference material for the certification exams
2. The most important factor that willl determine whether you pass or not is the knowledge that you hold in your head and not what is printed in your study material
As you say u have not worked on .net 2.0 and you have relatively less web dev experience... This may lead you to work extra hard on the 70-536 exam. I do not knkow about the 70-505 exam coz I m a thru & thru web dev guy...
Though having on hand experience is certainly the best way to know a technology, you can learn it frm reference books too...
My suggestion is that you must be prepared to work hard for these exams...- 已標示為解答OanaMarina Friday, 3 July, 2009 7:35

- Sorry, I forgot to mention, my work on windows development was on 2.0 framework.
Thanks for the answer, I will order the books and start learning. Hopefully some chapters I already know based on what I worked on until now. - Hi,
