While trying to import the Customer Portal technical preview solution into our on-premise instance of CRM 2011 released last week, following error is returned: The solution package cannot be imported because it contains invalid XML.

    This is the actual error:

The import file is invalid. XSD validation failed with the following error: 'The element 'attribute' has invalid child element 'Name'. I was previously able to import this solution with no issues several times with CRM 2011 beta online.

Are these known issues with the released version of CRM 2011 and could you please let me know when those are expected to be fixed, or if there is a workaround?

    Hi David,

Which file are you trying to import? Is it MicrosoftXrmCustomerPortal.zip or are you trying to load the cab file?

    Thanks

    Hi Palak,

It is the MicrosoftXrmCustomerPortal.zip file that we are trying to import and returns this error. This is on a 2011 instance that was installed after the official release last week. My colleague in the US has the exact same issue. We did not encounter these issues on 2011 Beta.

    Thanks,

    David

Can you please tell me the version number of CRM you're on? You can find it in File -> Help -> About Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

    Thanks!

    Hi Palak,

The version is CRM 2011 Beta (5.0.9585.110) - on premise. We did not see these issues when importing the solution on CRM 2011 Beta (5.0.9688.585) - online. During (successful) import on that online version, it does display a message saying the solution was built using version 5.0.9688.53. So could the issues with our on premise version be related to the fact that it is an older version than the one used to build the solution? By mistake I thought we were already on the latest version released last week.

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

Yes, it is very likely that problem is caused because the solution is built on a newer version of CRM than your deployment. Please try upgrading your on premise version to the latest release that can be found here: http://crm.dynamics.com/.

    Thanks!
