I installed Win7 HP and it works great and activated automatically which I didn't want it to do but O well...  Now I would like to buy the family pack since I have 3 PCs @ home and give this already activated copy to my son which he will subsequently install/activate.  Is this possible and/or permissible?

    Hello KP Martin,

If your copy of Win7 HP is Retail (came in the nice looking retail box) then all you need to do is to delete/overwrite the Win7 HP on your computer and have your son install and activate. The Activation Servers will note that the Hardware ID (of your son's computer, that just activated) is different then the first activation, the assumption is that Windows install on the PC that was Activated previously, is no longer funtional (i.e. user deleted or overwrote it) and is, therefore, 'deactivated'.

In otherwords, no manual Deactivation is required.

Note: If the Windows 7 HP is OEM (came in a cardboard sleeve and at a lover price or came preinstalled on a computer) then the Licensing Terms only allows the Windows to be licensed on the first computer it was installed on.  It can not be moved to any other PCs.

    Hope that helps,
    Darin MS

Thanks Darin, great and concise answer.  It is a full retail version so should be in good shape.  :)
