New Panorama leaves 'gap' in composite. How to remedy?

  There's ample overlap in my 12 x 3 image hand-held panorama, but ICE seems confused when automatically stitching these--there's a gap in the middle as if there is insufficient overlap.

  Other than perhaps reverting to a structured manual approach, is there an easy way out to help the program get it right?  Everything else about the automated result is, well, wonderful!
