This is in regard to recent issue reported under MS Project 2010 Proffesional edition. We were trying to connect MS Project 2010 Proffesional Client edition to MS Project 2010 server so that we can upload the project to resource center directly.
Right information is added under info-> Accounts and post to that MS Project client reports the following error "Could not retrieve server initialization data". Please let me know how to get rid of this.
Quick help is required!!
Thanks

Hi,
I have not run into this issue myself, but a quick search of these forums found these posts:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/projserv2010setup/thread/533363d0-212d-4e21-80c1-28fe59ae50cb
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/projserv2010setup/thread/41a78caf-721f-4908-aebb-6932ab4d02c6
Have you looked into the responses to see if these resolve the issue?
Regards,
Alex.

Hi,
A few more ideas...
What version are you running, RTM?
Are there any clues in the event log of the machine with the Project client? Have you checked out the ULS logs of the project server?
Alex

Hi,
Today I installed all available updates for both the server and the client.
Nothing has changed. -
2010年5月12日 上午 01:40
- Confirm you created your Project Server account within the Project Client? This is done from the backstage by clicking File > Info tab. If you haven't completed this step, you cannot connect to Project Server.
- Confirm when you open Project Professional 2010, did you register the account?
To register the account
FILE >>> INFO >>> "Manage Accounts"
Also, make sure all the accounts do not have a default account. This is to make sure the default "Computer" account is not being used.
Also you can try with “Disable the loopback check”

Thanks

I have resolved this issue by removing the Global.mpt from the following location.
C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\14\1033
-Configure the IIS, Host header and Alternate access mappings accordingly.
-Did you try to check the behaviour from different machine? different user account?
-Have you installed Project 2010 on project server directly and checked the behaviour?
Thanks

I have already used the right way to Register the account from FILE >>> INFO >>> "Manage Accounts"
also have tried with "Disable the loopback check" but results are negative :-(

There are two things, i hope you are able to access the PWA in Internet Explorer.
In project center, are you able to create project plan, add tasks?
What is the Project pro client version you installed on the machine?
Is BCM mode enabled on the server?
Any firewall introdcued bwteen server and clieny?

I am able to add New Project but creation of New task is not highlighted its only showing Task for Team.
Project Client Proffesional 2010.
No firewall.

Very clear. That user doesn't have permission to create project plan.
In the right side top corner of PWA, click on the user account which you logged in, click on Sign in as different User (Login throguh system account if possible).
Click on Server Settings, Manage Users, Click on the User account.
Check the Security Groups & Security Categories. Ensure it has adequate previleages...

Hi Yash,
According the the screenshot you posted, it seems you may be trying to add project tasks using the My Tasks views, which rightly won't support the adding of new tasks.
To use the web based editing of Project Server, you need either create a new project schedule via the Project Center > New option, or choose an existing schedule in Project Center. Once the schedule is opened and displaying the Gannt chart, you should be able to edit the schedule and add new tasks.
There are some fantastic videos at http://office2010.microsoft.com/en-us/project-server-help/CH010362470.aspx , specifically the ones entitled 'Up to speed with Project Web App' and 'Create or Edit a project or proposal' that cover off the new GUI, Ribbons and how to do web based editing.
Hope this helps,
alex.

Hello Yash,
On the screenshot, observed that you logged in through ITPROJECTS\Administrator.
Suggesting you to login through the system account (the account which you used to provision the PWA), then Click on Server Settings, Manage Users, Click on the Specific User account.
Check the Security Groups & Security Categories. Ensure it has adequate previleages...

Hi Sriram,
ITPROJECTS\Administrator is the account through which provisioning is done.
Thanks

Hello Yash,
I am sorry. It was not correct.
If you check the PWA, right side top corner. It should show 'System account' instead ITPROJECTS\Administrator.
So open the Application management, service applications, project server application
Move your cursor over PWA, click on the drop down, click on view. Find out the administrator account which you used for provisioning.
Try login through that account and check the behaviour.
