  I can't speak about using the Microsoft, XEN, or other virtualization technologies, but it does successfully install in VMware virtualization products.
  
  I attempted to install it in VMware Workstation 5.5, and could not install it successfully, unless I chose the BusLogic SCSI adapter/disk type.
  
  It did not natively support it, but using the VMware BusLogic driver located here: http://download3.vmware.com/software/vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp
  
  Again, if I attempted to use a virtual IDE disk, or a virtual LSILogic SCSI disk, it would not install properly.

  While waiting for new hardware for a WHS Box  I ran WHS up on Virtual PC 2007 on a Dell D610. Set 512MB Ram 80GB Fixed Size Virtual Hard Drive.

  Installs no problems. Runs fine althougn backups are a bit slow. remote access also works from the internet.

  Not sure if my previous post took.
  
  WHS will install in a Virtual Machine.
  
  Others have reported that physical systems with less than 1GHz will successfully run (which aren't supported configurations either).

  Dear Microsoft:

  That is disappointing.  I thought Microsoft was supposed to eat their own dog food.

  Virtualization is good enough for Clients, but not Microsoft?

  I have Home Server, and a client installed within VMware's Free server edition. 

  Everything works fine so far.

   

  The best network option is to use a briged network connection, this way updates can be retrieved during install and later when they are needed.

  If the Server install seems to hang during installation, just restart the virtual machine, and it will pick up where it left off.

  Mine hung on the device driver part, and after I restarted, it went fine.

  I got it to work using VMware Workstation 6 Beta with a few issues during the initial install but it is working great now that it is installed.

  Sorry are you trying to backup Virtual machines or install thw WHS on a VM?

  I have installed in into a VM as well as I'm accessing it from a VM.
