Anyone got any knowledge whether WHS can work as an FTP server ??? Then you could map the server as a remote storage. Some 3´dr party applications allow you to do this.

The only limitations would be that A) you don't want your FTP server using the file system directly, so nothing directly on C: or D:, and therefore B) your FTP server needs to be able to serve up network shares.

And you'll need to install an FTP server; it's not installed by default, IIRC.

I would really recommend against it, though; FTP is an inherently insecure protocol.

Those 3'rd party app's that allow you to send files to an FTP server should also let you send them to a network share. running the IIS FTP server works fine but the more services running will ultimately slow down your server. And more importantly like Ken mentioned FTP is inherently less secure and leaves you with one more surface for attack from the internet.

I used to use an FTP server for access to files like diagnostic software that I use at customer locations but with WHS theres no longer a need to have it. I keep everything in one of the shares and can get to it there just as easy.
