The Windows Home Server team would like to invite you to download a beta version of the "Windows Home Server - Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot)" from Microsoft Connect at http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer.  If you have not previously registered for the Windows Home Server connect site, then you will need a Windows Live ID and need to follow the instructions on the Windows Home Server Connect home page.

There have been a few reports that the original Home Computer Restore CD did not work properly when trying to do full restore of a home computer.  The Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) is a new version of the Home Computer Restore CD that provides two options for you, depending on the amount of RAM in the home computer you are trying to restore.    The final version of the Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) will be part of the Power Pack 1 media refresh later this year, and will also be made available via the Microsoft Download Center to existing home server customers.

Please download and take the time to read the Release Documentation for the Dual Boot Restore CD.  It would be great for people to download this beta version and test its functionality.  You will need to be able to burn an ISO file to a CD to test the Windows Home Server - Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot). Thanks in advance.

    The Windows Home Server Team

After the update, are we going to have burnt CD in replacement of original CD when purchased? Will there be an option to order updated CDs from Microsoft for it's WHS customers?

I just followed the link and the site looks like it has great potential, but it is currently content free.  No Computer Restor CD(Dual Boot) link or even mention of it.  I elected to join a number of other connections, but they are also just landing pages.  It is not like MS to open a site with so little content.  Can anyone shed any light on this?

Please wait for your request to join the Windows Home Server Connect program to be processed. It doesn't happen automatically, or instantly.

If you navigate to http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer and sign in with your Windows Live ID then you should see 2 downloads if you are part of the broad public beta.  The Dual Boot Restore CD and then the 2nd download available is the "Release Documentation" for the Dual Boot Restore CD.

I just tested it and those 2 items are there.

Well, if there's a problem I'm bound to find it.
I backed up the C: drive of my system (WHS BACKUP) , 23gb, then replaced it's disk with a single new 500gb drive, booted from the "dual boot" cd, restored all the files (from server)

It says success, reboot, and it won't boot - asking to insert a system disk, won't repair from the original OEM vista disk .  NADA.

So far as I can see WHS backups are totally useless.

I have about 10 attempts to do the restore because the server kept locking up, and needed to be force powered off before I could try again!

Please tell me I'm wrong, I've lost the entire weekend and the system , great!
