windows live care keeps poping up saying status at risk. It says it can't turn on firewall. it says reset one care. when I say fix it, it acts like it does but does not. then at the bottom of my screen it brings back my alert icon. so i guess the firewall is off and my computer is at risk on the internet. can you help me?Thursday, July 3, 2008 6:15 PM

I have the same problem. Windows Live Onecare gives an urgent message to turn on the firewall, however the settings show that the firewall is already on. I ran the firewall repair tool from their website and it made no difference (ran it, rebooted, ran it again, and rebooted).
WTF?

Are you seeing a message from OneCare or the Windows Security Center (Red shield with an x). If it is the latter, see this post:
Windows Security Center fix - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2469173&SiteID=2
If it is coming from OneCare, is the OneCare tray icon green or red? Or is it red until you open OneCare and then see that the firewall is indeed on and then the OneCare icon is green?
You may want to contact support.

See the post directly above yours for a link to the firewall repair tool and also the link to the FAQ for contacting support if the tool does not solve your problem.

Tracy0618,
Thank you for visiting the Live OneCare program forum. Please remove your personal email address. And please post your question in a new thread. Include your scenario, like where are you looking at the firewall status, in the control panel or in the Live OneCare program. Are you experiencing any Error or Dialog Messages?
The Live OneCare program deActivates the Operating System firewall found in the control panel and activates the firewall within the program.

My firewall won't turn on either. I went in and tried to turn it back on and it showed that it was off so I clicked on the off button, but nothing happened!!! I've tried everything on windows live one care and nothing happens to correct the problem.

If you are also getting the "not responding" situation, I'm not sure that the firewall repair tool linked above is going to work for you. Did you try it?
You may want to consider reinstalling OneCare or contacting support for more help.

Are you referring to the OneCare firewall repair tool?
Assuming you are running Vista, right click on the saved, downloaded tool and select Run as Administrator.
Note that this tool is not for the Windows Firewall. If you are not using OneCare, you're off topic for this forum.

You're off topic for this forum, then, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare. The repair tool has nothing to do with the Windows firewall.
Your question may be better posted to one of the forums here.
