Server 2003: Replacing mirrored disks RRS feed

  • Question

  • During a routine disk check I have found that both disks in a mirrored set have bad sectors. It seems that the bad sectors don't overlap, so all the data is accessible from one disk or the other, but I obviously have to replace them.

    How do I do that?

If I replace the mirror disk, the data from the bad sectors of the other disk won't be copied correctly to the replacement disk. If I make the mirror disk into the primary disk and add a new disk as mirror, again I have some bad data.

The solution might be to add a third disk into the mirror set and copy all data from the old disks onto it, but mirroring supports only 2 disks in a set.

    Any ideas?
