I read through the information on OneCare and I'm still confused! The video on this forum is no longer on, either.
Guess I just need a "step by step" for Dummies kind of approach, LOL!
What we want to do is prevent everyone else from using our internet connection. (We live in a busy area and this would be easy for others to do.) Other people are able to use our internet connection, because I just bought a MacBook and was able to use the internet without a password. (So were two guests in our home recently) How do we set it up to require a password if you don't "belong" in our home?
This is a home computer (Dell PC with XP) that is connected to a router. We have an Xbox, Wii, DS and a notebook and MacBook Pro that are connecting to the internet. Supposedly we can connect our Dish Network, but I haven't figured that one out yet either.
What should be turned on and what should be turned off on the firewall as far as these?
Network Discovery
File & Printer sharing
Media Center Extender (current: ON)
Streaming Media
Virtual Private Network
Internet Connection Sharing
Remote Assistance
The status of all the above activities are OFF except the Media Center Extender as noted above.
Also, I went to see the "details" of our connection (to see what the password was; as questioned by someone in another post about finding the password), and the "details" button is not enabled. We use Zoomtown as our internet provider and have a Westell VersaLink if that makes any difference.
