  • Spørgsmål

  • I've purchased Office Ultimate.  Each time I try to install I get the exact same message.  The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then retype it.  Then I'm left with 1 option, cancel.

From all the posts, this seems completely common.  Very Very Very frustrating.  I've seen that several things can cause this:  Previous installations of Office, Uninstalls not working properly, Registry Errors, etc.  I've tried all the fixes I could find.  I've unistalled everything.  I've manually uninstalled.  I've edited the registry to take out any bits that might be left over.  I even did a reformat/re-install. All of this with no success.

I went back to Digital River's customer service to verify that my product key was correct and they assured me that it was.  They referred me to Microsoft if it didn't work.  Here I am.  Please help me.

I'm running a HP Laptop with Windows Vista Home Pro.

I know that know one want's or cares to hear it, but if I hadn't already paid for this program I would have called it quits already.  I'm not sure why I have to suffer this frustration simply to prove that I've paid for the product.  Why can't I simply email my receipt.  I'm so close to going with Open Office.  No other product on earth would still be in business when customers are treated guilty until proven innocent...  Thank you for letting me rant a bit.  Any help would certainly be appreciated at this point.

  • Cire,

Call Microsoft Service back and ask for assistance in this situation. I am not sure what the problem could be as. It appears to not be a WGA issue but an installation issue as Dan previously mentioned.

    Thank you Cire,

  • Morning Cire,

Thank you for posting the MGA Diagnostic results for us in the OGA Forums. Right now I can see that no Office Suites or Office standalone programs are currently installed. Please do me a favor. Open your control panel and then go to your uninstalled programs.  Do you see any office or office standalone programs currently installed? If so please tell me exactly what version/s they are. Next is your computer relatively  new? If so did you have a trial version of Office Home and Student 2007 installed? Usually manufacturers install a trial version for customers to use for a limited period and if they like Office then they may purchase it.

    Let us know.

    Thank you Stephen

  •  As part of my research into this problem, I saw that previous versions of Office installed can create difficutly for another installation.

I've recently (last night) recovered my computer back to it's original state using the disks provided by HP.  The first thing I did was to remove the Trial version Office Home and Student that came pre-loaded using the Add/Remove in Control Panel.  I then rebooted.  I tried to load Office Ultimate after the reboot, but encountered the exact same issue.  Instead of continuing with the installation without a product code, which I assume will give me a crippled program until I can produce a product key that passes muster, I canceled the installation.  From there I went back to the forums.  I found this link :http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928218/en-us.  I followed the instructions for completely removing any residual Office files from the system and registry.  When I was done with that, I again rebooted the computer.  I tried once again at an Office Ultimate installation, but with the exact same results that I've had since I bought to program.  I got frustrated, canceled installation the same way as before and posted here.

What can I be doing wrong or missing???  I'm sure you guys have seen it all, so I'm hoping that you might have some good insight into my problem.

    Thanks!
    Eric

  • Cire5671,

Your exact situation is not common at all, because your situation is an installation issue, not a Product Activation issue or Office Validation issue.  The latter two are seen here quite often, and 99% of the time they are resolved.

You mentioned Digital River, which indicates that your purchase of Office 2007 Ultimate was an online purchase in which you were provided a Product Key and downloaded an installation file.

There are really only two possible explanations for your current unforunate situation:

    1.  The Product Key is correct for the exact version and edition of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate that you downloaded, but for some reason you are not entering it correctly.  Here are some tips that may apply:

    • With Product Keys printed on Certificates of Authenticity, sometimes people get the letter "B" and the numeral "8" mixed up, and the letter "Y" and the numeral "4" mixed up, when they enter the PK.
    • For current software products, Microsoft PKs are in a "5 by 5" format, that is, there are five groups of five characters each for a total of 25 characters.  Do not include the hyphens when typing.
    • Microsoft PKs are NOT case sensitive, so do not have the CAPS LOCK key on or press the Shift key when typing.

    2.  The Product Key that you received is not the correct Product Key for the product that you downloaded.  This could mean that a mistake was made in that you got the wrong PK, or it could mean that you somehow downloaded the wrong product file.  Would you be able to post the file name(s) of the file(s) that you downloaded?  When you ran Setup for your Office, did Setup specifically say this was Office 2007 Ultimate?  How were you informed of the PK, was it displayed on the screen or emailed to you?  Finally, did you purchase Office as part of the Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate Steal, which is offered to college students?  (http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx)

  • Dan,
Thanks for your help.  I'm sorry that my original post sounded so angry.  It's more frustration from several hours of working on this.  I'm very grateful for everyone's help here.  Sorry for the venting...

    To answer your questions,
    • I've tried both typing my PK in(with and without the hyphens) as well as doing the copy/paste from my saved copy of the confirmation website.  It is definitely in the 5 by 5 format.
    • When I run the setup program, it states that it is Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007.
    • My PK was both displayed on the screen with a download link and sent to me in a confirmation email.  I saved the webpage with the confirmation on it so that I wouldn't lose it.
    • And finally, this was purchased as part of the Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate Steal through Digital River.  I did email their Cust Service and got a reply stating that I did receive the correct PK.

I tried again tonight to install the program.  I chose to not enter the PK (because I can't, obviously) and now have Office on the system, but it asks for the PK at the opening of every program.  I know that eventually I'll be in limited functionality mode, but thought that it might help with the diagnostic tool maybe???

Thanks so much for your help,
    Eric

  • Hi Stephen,

Is there a way for cire5671 to contact a Product Activation Call center to ask them if the Product Key he was given for his Office 2007 Ultimate is (a) Genuine and (b) correct for Office 2007 Ultimate?

  • Cire5671,

It's disappointing to be the "one in a million guy" whose product key got wacky somehow, but the good news is that you were able to get it all straightened out in the end.

Glad to see that your perseverence paid off.  Best of Luck!  :-)
