HPC Pack 2012 on Windows 2016

    Question

  • Hi,

From the MSFT website, system requirements for the HPC pack 2012 Update 3 is windows 2012 Standard/R2 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49922). We plan to migrate applications on to Windows 2016 Server and would need to know what are the risks when hosting Head node on Windows 2016 instead of 2012.

We tried the installation and it seems to go well. From the MSFT comparison (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/windows-server-comparison) ofcourse 2016 is more secure than the other version.  @HPC team please advise.

    Cheers

  • The latest HPC Pack 2012 Update 3 shall just works for most of the functionality Except below know issues:

    1. You are not able to use bare metal deployment for your on premise nodes (This is fixed in HPC Pack 2016 Update 1)

    2. You might not able to "Select NAT" during network topology configuring as the system API changes.
