Convert an install of Project Pro to Standard without reinstalling it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello - I have an install of Project Professional and it was given in error. Is it possible to change/downgrade it via command line or power shell script or entering in project standard key on the PC?  I don't want to uninstall and reinstall, if possible.

  • Hi,

No it is not possible. Standard and Pro versions are 2 distinct products with different capabilities. You need to uninstall and reinstall.

    Hope this helps,

Hmm.  If it was a manual install, of the ISO sometimes they have all the versions embedded in the same installer.  And then the key needed for each actual edition is unique.  After that's punched in and authenticated, it will install the desired version.  That's what I last heard.

  • What you are describing is an installation of Project (both Standard and Pro), and the key is unlocking the features based on your license.   It's not two separate installations.

You can install different version of Project, such as Project 2013, Project 2016, Project 2019, but the same hold true in that you cannt have both the professional and standard on the same workstation.

The best solution would be to uninstall the standard and then install the Professional, because it has all the features and can be linked to project server.
