Audio/Video Calls with other clients (Yahoo, AOL, MSN) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just wanted to see if I read this correctly in the FAQ's.
Is IM the only functionality that is available between Office Communicator and other clients such as Yahoo, AOL, MSN etc.
I am looking to have video and audio conferences using Communicator and a public client.

  • Yes, only IM and Presence are available.  Each of the public IM providers use different transports for A/V which complicates things.

  • Is there any way around it or is A/V conferencing impossible with the public provider right now?

  • No, there is no way to provide Audio/Video communications directly between OCS and AIM/MSN/Yahoo users via PIC.

  • Do you know if Google is supported for IM with OCS?  I have not seen it on the list.

  • By implementing a jabber XCP gateway you could connect OCS with other (XMPP) related IM systems like i.e. Google Talk. I have not tested it yet but it seems that only IM is supported for now.

Please read more about it at : http://www.jabber.com/CE/JabberXCPInteroperabilityOptions

  • Also, Microsoft is working on their own gateway - it's listed at http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=14471&x=18&y=7, but I haven't seen any official release information yet.
