REPLACING BLOCKED VLK RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well I have finally figured out why my OS (xp pro) is illegal..........VLK blocked........had a 98 second edition that had crashed & took the tower to a mom & pop that downloaded xp pro for me ( at my request ) new office 2003 also.  No problems with operation.  Ran the diagnostic tool from wga site.  And find that I have one of those vlk systems.  My office program is also invalid.

I do not plan to waste my time with the OEM products.  Cannot resolve thru the wga site....as I have no CD .  Had to spend $14.50 to get a program to find my PID for me.

My question is this.........I plan to purchase a genuine retail copy of XP PRO & Office 2003........can I purchase an upgrade version of XP PRO to become valid / legal....or does it need to be a full version?

  • A "Blocked VLK" is a Volume License Key that is valid, but was licensed solely to a corporation or larger enterprise/business. Blocked VLK's are Product Keys that Microsoft has received consent from the original owner to block usage of. A VL Product Key is non-transferrable to individuals. In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, you'll see a button to click on which will provide information on how to acquire a WGA Kit.

Also, your installed copy of Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage is non-genuine. You'll need to uninstall it, then visit a nearby store that sells computer software and purchase a genuine version of Microsoft Office.

  • Rcmillsap,

You would be able to use a retail upgrade for XP Pro assuming you had either W98SE installed, or had the qualifying media for W98SE to insert into the CDROM drive at the appropriate time during setup.

Since the typical XP Pro upgrade goes for $199 USD you're better off buying the cheaper WGA Kit which is a full retail license for $149.  WGA FAQ:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EPKAC

Since you have a bogus Office, you also qualify for the Office Genuine Advantage offer and can get Office 2007 at a discounted price, too.  See the FAQs here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0ELAAE

Also you may submit a piracy report. This will help prevent others from becoming victims as you have. If you need further assistance please re-post. Have a wonderful week.
