Calculated Horizontal and Vertical Angles RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Can anyone answer how ICE calculates the angles it displays when you create a new panorama?  I've been stitching 3 frame landscapes and would expect to get a horizontal angle of about 99.5 degrees but ICE is displaying an angle of about 87 degrees and the overlap of the photos doesn't look like its enough to justify this size of angle.

  • This is what ICE has computed as the field-of-view (FOV) of the panorama.  It corresponds to the full uncropped panorama.  Getting the precisely correct FOV depends on ICE computing the focal length of the source images correctly.  If the appropriate EXIF tags are present then this usually works.  ICE needs FocalLength, FocalPlaneXResolution, FocalPlaneResolution, and FocalPlaneResolutionUnit to be there.  If those tags aren't there then ICE automatically computes focal length.  But, it is a notoriously diffcult thing to compute precisely in the fully automatic mode.
