Which certifications should I take? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am 2+ years experienced in Visual Studio 2005 with ASP/C# .Net.
I am currently looking out for jobs in other companies. However, I want to take certifications before that. I came to know that MCTS and MCPD in web development are the ones suited for me. (Correct me if I am wrong here)

I want to know whether I need to take certifications in .Net 2.0 or .Net 3.5 or higher (if available) in order to catch the interviewer's eye/keeping my career in mind? I am in a confused state as the version I am working on is 2.0 and the latest available is 3.5. Please help me out.

    Thanks in advance

  • Answering your first question first, you are right about MCTS and MCPD in Web Development is the track which you should be focusing. You currently have 3 options:

Option 1: You can become .Net 2.0 Certified (Visual Studio 2005)

Option 2: You can become .Net 3.5 Certified (Visual Studio 2008)

Option 3: You can become .Net 2.0 Certified and upgrade to 3.5

I hope above clears your confusion.

What I would suggest is following:

Go with .Net 3.5 exams, .Net 4.0 around the corner and there is no reason to go backward with .Net 2.0 now. Your experience with .Net 2.0 Framework along with .Net 3.5 Certifications will make you marketable in both angels.

Hope is helpful and answers your question.
