  • Question

  • I am working on an application which will hold client account information for our company. What I am needing is to be able to add notes to the client account when they call/come in. The way I am testing now is to have a seperate SQL db with a clientid field to link them together, and when the account window is open it displays the notes in the proper area. Is there any other way to do this, I am just exploring options and looking for the best idea to deply.

    Thanks for any advice.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System and Visual Studio Editor.

I am moving your question to the moderator forum ("Where is the forum for..?"). The owner of the forum will direct you to a right forum.

In addition, if you are working with Windows Forms app. please consult on Windows Forms Forum:http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/home?category=windowsforms

If you are workingw with WPF app, please consult on WPF forum: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?forum=wpf

If you are working with ASP.NET Web Application, I suggest that you can consult your issue on ASP.NET forum: http://forums.asp.net/  for better solution and support.

  • Having a separate table for notes/comments what is linked back to the client account would be just fine. What I have seen thou is developers not providing adequate size fields for notes/comments so this would be a consideration when setting up the table for notes/comments.

I would highly suggest adding a date/time stamp field to the note/comment table in the event you need to know when the note/comment was entered rather than depending on the user to add date/time of the note.

You might also consider allowing simple formatting i.e. bold, italic, underline so that will change the field type and also would require perhaps a RichTextBox or similar control. Of course this is dependent on user requirements.

I work with IBM-DB2 and use a CLOB (similar to a BLOB in ms-access or SQL_VARIANT in Transact-SQL) and don't limit user's to any specific amount of text thus they have 2 GB to work with.

Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help, this will help others who are looking for solutions to the same or similar problem.
