Valid product code but 'Invalid' error message RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having just switched to a new PC, I'm cleaning up my old Dell XPS ready for resale.  I used Norton System works to delete unwanted cookies and rebooted.  Now I get a message saying it cannot find the configuration files and asks me to enter my Windows 98 Product Key.  I type this from the original manual but it tells me it's invalid and I cannot proceed - only to turn my PC off.

I've tried booting from the origianl Win 98 disk but I ge tthe same result.

Where do I go from here?

    Hi skilover,

This forum is for the support of Windows Genuine Advantage Validation issues. You question does not appear to be WGA related and such is Off-Topic.

That being said, it sounds to like Norton System works might have deleted an importent file or two. My only suggestion would be to reinstall Win98.

    Thank you,
