Windows Vista 64-bit is Activated-Nothing Works

Question
-
I have a Gateway Windows 64-Bit Computer. I received the message that my operating system is not genuine even though it is OEM. I called Microsoft Assistance & they walked me through the validation & the set-up window said that the validation was successful. I restarted twice & I am no longer getting the Activation message but I am still unable to access a lot of programs, both stand-alone & Windows based, including- My Computer, Control Panel, Windows Defender, etc.

Hi Joe,
As you mentioned (and confirmed by your Diagnostic Report) your Windows is not Non-Genuine. The issues you mentioned (as well as the now resolved, non-genuine messages) are likely symptoms of a larger Windows issue.
I can't be sure, but I think Carl is on the right track thinking it may be Malware related. Unfortunatly this forum can only help with Validation (Non-Genuine) issues with you do not appear to have.
I recommend posting in the Vista Answers Forums http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsvista. Most likely in the 'Security, Privacy, and User Accounts' or 'System Repair and Recovery' sections.
Thank you,

Download and run malware bytes but first, follow the instruction in this sticky and post your report by editing your initial post and pasting the report there.

For general spyware help see the below forums and links if malwarebytes finds anythings. I suggest the malware information because of the usability issues you are having with the programs listed.
