Importing CRM 4 Organization into CRM 2013 - Fails with Invalid Column Name error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am currently testing out CRM 2013 and as part of my test I am attempting to import a CRM 4 organisation. I have restored the database but whenever I start the Deployment Manager, after I've chosen the server and database the snapin crashes.

I then tried with PowerShell and it at least gives me some more information: "Error: Invalid Column Name 'CurrencyPrecision'

I've tried googling the error message with regards to CRM import but nothing seems to work.

I tried it again with tracing turned on and the XRMDeployment.log file contains similar information:

Exception on the server in CrmDeploymentService.Execute during the execution of BeginImportOrganizationRequest: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Invalid column name 'CurrencyPrecision'.

    and

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/System.ServiceModel.Diagnostics.TraceHandledException.aspxHandling an exception. Exception details: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.Deployment.DeploymentServiceFault]: Invalid column name 'CurrencyPrecision'. (Fault Detail is equal to Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.Deployment.DeploymentServiceFault)./LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/XRMDeployment-1-130615535702488656System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.Deployment.DeploymentServiceFault, Microsoft.Crm.DeploymentService, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]], System.ServiceModel, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089Invalid column name 'CurrencyPrecision'.   at Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.Deployment.DeploymentService.Execute(DeploymentServiceRequest request)

I am running CRM with Service Pack 1 and Rollup 1.

Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Dan.

  • Hi Dan,

What is your process to upgrade crm 4.0 organisation to crm 2013. I think first you need to upgrade it to crm 2011 and then to crm 2013.

  • As per the previous post, you cannot directly upgrade by more than one version. You'll have to upgrade the CRM 4organisation to CRM 2011, and then to CRM 2013

  • Yes, everyone's right here. You can't go from CRM 4.0 directly to CRM 2013 - you've got to go via CRM 2011.

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, apologies for my slow reply - taken off that and moved to something else in the meantime. I've marked your post as the answer, I guess it was a bit optimistic of me to think that it would be easy to migrate from 4.0 to 2013 :-)

    Cheers,

    Dan.

  • Hi,

I don't know if Microsoft have fixed this issue but you might run into another problem and that is that the CRM 2011-org can't be updated the same day as the CRM4-upgrade was done for some reason. Chris Cognetta's blog shows how to deal with this if you don't want to wait 24h.
