Invalid product key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm trying to install windows vista business (english version) on my sony vaio vgn-fe21m, but when I try to activating the product, it keeps telling me that my product key is invalid -- and i've retyped it dozens of times. Please help!

As a side note, the Windows product key as listed in the following diagonistic report does not at all resemble the product key on my laptop -- the one I've been trying to type in. What does that mean?

  • Hello shancks,

I do not understand your issue.

You say "I'm trying to install windows vista business (english version) on my sony vaio vgn-fe21m, but when I try to activating the product, it keeps telling me that my product key is invalid"

You Currently have Windows XP Media Center on your Laptop, so How can you be trying to Activate Vista when it is not yet installed on your computer?

You also say: "As a side note, the Windows product key as listed in the following diagonistic report does not at all resemble the product key on my laptop -- the one I've been trying to type in. What does that mean?"

Yes, the Product Key inside a pre-installed windows Will be diffrent then the product key found on the sticker on the computer. That is known and expected.  What I don't understand is it sounds like you are trying to use the XP Product key from the sticker on your computer, to install Vista...That will not work. You must use a Vista key to install Vista.

This forum is for Activation and Validation issues and since Activation nor Validation can come into play untill after the OS is actually installed, I suggest that you contact Vista support at http://support.microsoft.com for assistance installing Vista. (install issues are usually no cost)

    Thank you,
