Adding spaces before a hyperlink in HTML

  When I try to add a blank space before a hyperlink to a website, the "underline" of the hyperlink is staying with the spacing, so my link look like this:   _____www.leadingedgecut.com     instead of:  www.leadingedgecut.com.  I've tried the   and the   codes. I'm sure this is something that's easily done if you know HTML, and I do not! Just trying to get a professional looking email signature out of this process for Windows Live Mail.  UGH! Thanks!
