Sync gobbles up desktop hard-drive space

  After I run sync toy, I end up with a hard-drive that is running on empty and I notice that there are loads of items duplicated.  This is just not right.  If I use that portable hard-drive and then come home and want to sync it with my desk top, surely the files altered should be synced both ways, and not everything repeated and duplicated.....I D 10 T question obviously!  I'm OK with that
