Visual C++ won't install (64 and 32 bit) on my newly installed Win7 OS Dell PC RRS feed

    Hi all,

    I cannot install Paintshop Pro (PSP) because it depends on Visual C++ being installed (both versions, 64 and 32), but the application installation fails.

    The PSP tech tried uninstalling all and reinstalling, but it fails at 2012. He also used the MS uninstall/install fixit tool with no success.

    Any idea how to get it to install?

    a Dell technician ran a windows clean up program, and that fixed the installation of Visual C++. thank you

    I am sure that PaintShop Pro does not require Visual C++ to be installed, but it may require the Visual C++ runtime DLL's.

    But if it does need them, then it should install them. What is happening exactly?

    PaintShop Pro X6 is a 64-bit distribution, so it would require the 64-bit runtime DLL's.

    (Note that Visual C++ is part of Visual Studio, which itself is a 32-bit application, though it can compile 64-bit programs.)

    You're probably right, but the bottom line from PSP support is that unless my OS has 2012 installed, then they can't help me. :-(

    Here is the log file when I try to run repair on this file (vcredist 2012 _x64.exe) to get the exe to install.

    I get a Setup Failed error message (0x0070005) Access is denied. I am in an Admin account, and I tried both the regular run and Run as Admin mode.

    The second log content is when I try to run this file: vcredist 2012_x86.exe

    Any help you can give is VERY appreciated. :-)

    It seems to me this is a PaintShop Pro issue, but

    1. Do you ave Win7 32-bit or 64-bit?

    2. Which version of PaintShop Pro are you trying to install?

    3. Where are you getting the vcredist_x64.exe (or vcredist_x86.exe) file from?

    I have win 7, 64 bit installed.

    Version X7. I have the disks for their X5 version, but that would not install either (or their trial version). I had to upgrade in order to get support to even try to help install it. 

    It looked like they were downloading from the MS site: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx

    Again, I do not think you are talking about installing Visual C++ itself, but rather about installing the Visual C++ redist package. The former is part of Visual Studio, which is an application used for creating Windows (and other) programs. The latter is a set of files needed for such programs to run on the customer's machine. Not the same thing.

    But I am glad you have fixed your problem.
