  • Hello MIJOSH,

You indicate there the inability for downloading any updates? Please tell me more about this. First I would like you to visit:  http://support.microsoft.com/ph/9860 .  This site is the Windows Genuine Advantage Solution Center and may provide you with recommendations for resolving your situation. Next visit the follow site and validate your computer @ http://www.genuine.com/genuine .  Next click on "Validate Windows" in the upper right hand corner. Please follow the guidance and restart your computer. Try and update your computer again.  What happens? Please provide any error codes or statements surrounding any validation failures and post back to us in this thread.  Should this not resolve your problem please run the MGA diagnostic test and post the results.  Below I will provide you with guidance:

Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.

Step 2 is tell us about the COA. Tell us:

    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
    5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

    Thank you,

  • Mijosh,

The diagnostic utility is reporting that both your XP Media Center and Office Small Biz 2003 are genuine installations.

In reality, you are having a problem with Windows Updates rather than Windows or Office Genuine Advantage.

Please follow the Help and Support links on the Windows Updates page to find assistance in solving your Windows Updates difficulties.

Or, visit the WU Solution Center here:  http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527

Or, have a look at the WU support forum:  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&lang=en&cr=US

    Good Luck!

  • Bry,

Recently there have been several posts surrounding problems to WGA Tool KB89213 and Updats.  First the issue appears to be Windows Update and not Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) related. This Forum is only for support of WGA. In turn the issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. Please visit https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 and submit a support request for Windows Update problem which you are experiencing. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide the following information.

First please visit the following Knowledge Base (KB) article “Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation”  located @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 .

Also visit the XP Newsgroups @ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?query=Validation+Tool+%28KB892130&dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&pt=&catlist=B0DE109D-10E1-4C3C-BCC9-8EB7A22FC6A0&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us and search for Validation Tool KB892130. There are many articles you can review.

Next, many users have experienced problems surrounding the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130).   If you find that Windows Update refuses to install most patches, you can register its missing DLLs yourself. This can be accomplished by manually entering seven commands (shown in Step 2, below) at a command prompt. If you need to run the fix on multiple machines, it's easiest to use a batch file, as Steps 1 through 5 explain:

Step 1. Open Notepad (or any text editor).

Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):

    regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
    regsvr32 /s wups.dll
    regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, using a .bat or .cmd extension.

Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.

Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.

The next time you visit the Windows Update site, you should not have any problem installing the latest patches.
Another possible fix is to install an older version of the Windows Update files (downloadable from Step 2 of Microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/en-us#SPR over the newer version. This will involve launching the installer from a command line using a switch know as /wuforce.

Hopefully this has been able to resolve some users problems. If not please use the resources provided in this article as well as submit a service incident.

    Thank you,

Let’s split your thread off so we may focus more attention on your particular situation.  Splitting threads are done to mitigate confusion caused by more than one posting about similar   topics allowing us to focus on each customer individually.  Please post your question here http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=442&SiteID=25 in a new thread of your own.

In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool.  The tool will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing.  Also, please provide a brief synopsis describing the issue including any error messages or codes. These can be found in the lower left hand corner of most Genuine Advantage Web pages when an error is encountered.

Please download and run the MS Genuine Diagnostic Tool utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.

Step 2 is telling us about the COA. Tell us:

  •  Hello Aug,

Your issue appears to be Windows Update and not Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) related. This Forum is only for support of WGA. Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum.

Next, recently many users have experienced problems surrounding the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130).

    Thankyou,

  • Susan,

Thank you for visiting the Windows Genuine Advantage Forum. Please share with me why you can't download any updates. Example is your computer a store purchased system, custom built system, purchased second hand, or have you ever had the system in for repairs. Also did you purchase Windows separately such as for an upgrade and if so where did you purchase Windows.

Please download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum. This will allow us to see what you are experiencing and analyze the problems. Next we can try and forumulate an resolution for the problem.

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally

identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

    Thank you Susan,

  • Jamieanita21,

If you have reinstalled XP, you are seeing a somewhat common problem.

Please see this article for the solution:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/943144

  • Stephen,

Ref. your reply to Aug's ".. validated genuine product........ reinstalled XP now I cannot install updates.."

This cured my own similar problem which arose after using the XPhome installation disc to 'upgrade WinXP' (i.e. as I thought, attempting to over-write the apparently failing existing XP installation instead of formatting the HD and losing everything)

After this I got explanatory messages following many failed update attempts, something like: 'you need to install the XP Pro update program' which seemed to suggest that by 'Upgrading WinXP' I had really tried to "upgrade" to XP Pro, from my home edition installation CD, and I thought I had really mucked things up

I too started with checking validation etc. because of the registration business that followed the new XP install and because of lingering confusion between this and the 'activation' required after first installation before before updates can work. Then noted your comments that these pages are not really for advice about updating and began to get that familiar feeling

Then got to Your: "If you find that Windows Update refuses to install most patches, you can register its missing DLLs yourself. This can be accomplished by manually entering seven commands (shown in Step 2, below) at a command prompt" did the trick straight away! (with the script which I pasted into 'word pad' and re-named with 'something-or-other'.cmd before double clicking it)

This is the first time I found something so helpful - Many Thanks!

  • Hello,

    Thank you,

  • We support 30,000+ workstations and are rolling out Vista Enterprise. Our users don't have the ability to install ActiveX components. I need a fix that I can deploy with SMS 2003.

I can, and do, install the ActiveX component but but still get prompted every time I try to download a template for Word 2007. I go through the validation process, get "Validation Successful" but still can not dowload any Word templates
