Restore Windows Vista after disaster Live One Care v2.5 [tutorial wanted] RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    Hello,

Does there exist a manual that explains a restore with Live OneCare v2.5 after a complete disaster?

For example when you have a defect primary harddisk.

Do I have to replace the harddisk, and then install Windows Vista, and then install Windows Live OneCare, and then try to restore my computer? Will my computer then be like it was before the disaster?

Thanks a lot in advance for reading this, and possibly help me understand Windows Live OneCare!

  • You have described the process, but one additional piece of information is important.

OneCare backs up the data you have chosen in your Backup Plan. That means that any programs you have installed will also need to be reinstalled. OneCare will not backup and restore programs and it does not restore most of the customizations you may have done within those programs. When you restore your OneCare backup, it will put the data back into the folders on your computer unless the destination file already exists, in which case you would be advised that the files were restored to a special folder and you can then copy the files manually, or in the case of email, import the email into your email program.

  • I would like to see this feature added to OneCare.  Are there any plans to do so in the future?

What feature, Rklawton? Data backup and restore is part of OneCare today.

  • zx was asking about systems recovery (not just data recovery).

  • Yes Rklawton, you are right, I was expecting system recovery with Live One Care v2.5

    Best regards,

  • I don't expect total system image recovery to ever become a part of OneCare, especially at the current price point and for the target market. Image backup programs for a single PC typically cost more than the license for OneCare for 3 PCs for 12 months.
