Anyone use WHS for their Windows User Folder? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since I am going to be installing Windows 7 on my PC's I figured this would be a good time to consider moving my user profiles to my WHS. Not sure if this is a good idea or not though. Then my main files would be on a separate machine and if the WHS is ever down then I can't access the files. Then again, seems like it'd be safer in general because you'd always have redundancy and backup off the WHS.

  • I would recommend against server based profiles stored on the WHS, especially, if you don't have a wired GigaBit connection between the server and all clients.
It makes also not much sense in a non domain environment.
What you could do, is redirect the My Documents folder to the users shared folder on the WHS.
